PIFF '07: JULY 18 - 22
The Plymouth Independent Film Festival will celebrate its third year from July 18 through July 22. The theme this year is Renegade, exploring new techniques and tools in filmmaking and showcasing several films banned in the countries where they were made.

If you are a filmmaker, this is your opportunity to get your film out there to be seen. Early submissions are accepted through April 20, with an early entry discount for films submitted by April 2. A fee is required for the late entry deadline of May 11. Works in progress are accepted. Foreign language films without subtitles will be elegible to be screened only as works in progress. All genres are considered, including cultural diversity and the environment.
ON THE WATERFRONT
PIFF ’07 will again host a Comedy Evening, the Annual PIFF Awards, screening receptions, special filmmaker events, and outdoor movies on the lawn at downtown Plymouth’s historic waterfront.

Friday, July 20: On the Waterfront
Saturday, July 21: Star Wars (30th Anniversary)
Sunday, July 22: An Inconvenient Truth
CALLING ALL ARTISTS
Leslie Allen with Cindy Baer, winner of PIFF ’05 Award for Best Film, PURGATORY HOUSE
The Plymouth Independent Film Festival is seeking an artist to feature during our 2007 Festival. The artist will be given a showcase during the Festival’s Gala Reception, and select pieces of work will be exhibited at various locations throughout the Festival. In addition to the exhibit itself, the artist will receive a full page on our (soon to be renovated) website, local press coverage, and mention in Festival literature, including the 2007 brochure and poster. He or she also will be given two passes to all Festival screenings, workshops, and parties.

As the Festival enters its third year, submissions are coming in from all over the globe as filmmakers compete to take part. Already, 2007 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Plymouth and for film. In the past, the Festival has featured those who document history and enlighten through masterful (though often heart-wrenching) interpretations of social issues. It also has hosted Academy Award winners and nominees, as well as masters in the genres of short films and animation. In celebration of the arts in all disciplines, the Festival includes performances by musicians, dancers, comedians, and artists, as we strive to create everlasting relationships with all who share in this celebration.

For artists wishing to be considered for the featured slot, the criteria, in keeping with the independent theme, are simple. The artist need not be well known, and non-professional photos will be considered equally with high-end photos. The strength of the artist’s work should speak for itself. It is preferable that the artist hail from southeastern Massachusetts, and that he or she has a body of work that contains at least 8-10 pieces. This work can be two- or three-dimensional. It should be thought-provoking, energetic and fresh. Work with social, environmental, or intelligently humorous content (or a combination of the three) is desired.

Submissions must be done electronically. All interested parties should forward a letter of interest and 8-10 photos (no more than 12, please) to leslie@plyfilmfest.org. The deadline for submissions is March 20, 2007. The work will be reviewed by the Festival committee, and artists will be notified of the decision by mid-April of 2007.

A raconteur, Patty is known for her terrific witty comebacks.

Favorite Films…at least for today, and in no particular order:
1. Chicago "Fabulous musical (performed regularly in my living room!)."
2. Rear Window "Hitchcock at his best and gorgeous Grace Kelly (love the clothes!)."
3. Blood of the Poet "Gotta love a hand with a mouth! My first avant-garde film."
4. The Red Shoes "I took ballet class for 12 years and always wanted red toe shoes."
5. Cinema Paradiso "Yeah, I know, schmaltzy, but I love it!"
6. A Clockwork Orange "Kubrick, Kubrick, Kubrick."
7. Brief Encounter “No one does melodrama better than Noel Coward and who else would be able to use the word 'fractious' in a script? Also, David Lean directed. Of course, it was remade in the 80's with Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro with an 'American' ending.”
8. My Life Without Me “Sarah Polley - Great story and Debbie Harry plays her mom.”
9. The Girl in the Cafe “My personal fave, Bill Nighy, at his gentlemanly British best.”
10. Enduring Love “Sappy title, but good plot. Dreamy Daniel Craig is stalked by a psycho. This also has Bill Nighy!”
11. The Triplets of Bellville - “An almost silent, fabulous animated film.”
12. 100 days “Even though there were continuity flaws, it portrayed what happened without grossing one out (won two awards at PIFF ’06)."
13. "Anything directed by Lina Wertmuller and Pedro Almodovar."
14. "Any silent film with Buster Keaton."

Which filmmaker or actor would you invite to PIFF?
“Bill Nighy!”

If you could choose a theme for one of the festival years, what would it be?
“Noir & Blanc. (Not necessarily all black and white films, but film noir perhaps?)”

Why do you think a film festival is beneficial?
“Builds community awareness of lives, struggles and actions taking place outside our own little world. Gain knowledge and acceptance of differences. It's freakin’ fun! …and to entertain, enlighten and inspire.”
